Brown turtle


The brown turtle has its body, head and limbs covered with horny plates. The carapace of adults is oval in shape with 4 pairs of costal scutes and 5 central scutes. Plastron with 4 pairs of inframarginal scutes without pores. It has a medium and flat head, smaller than that of the green turtle, with a pair of prefrontals between the eyes, a sharp horny beak and serrated on its edges. A single nail on each front fin. The color of the carapace is almost black, more curved than that of the green turtle, with gray-green spots in radial or irregular shape, sometimes with bright green, brown, yellowish and reddish colors, particularly in juveniles, the head and fins almost black.
