The horse mackerel has an elongated and compressed body with a lateral line. Its body is greenish blue with white and / or silver tones. Young horse mackerel spend a lot of time sheltered by docks and bays, especially in summer, while the older ones are a few miles out to sea. They feed on crustaceans and smaller fish.
